About Volkswagen

Volkswagen was founded in 1937 and enjoyed a colourful early history with the advent of the Beetle. The brand's major modern era success in the UK really started with the very first Volkswagen Scirroco, Jetta and then Golf way back in 1975. VW Green Garage was founded not that long after in the early 1980 in a railway arch in Kilburn.

Over the early years the Volkswagen Golf was the dominant model that really built the reputation of VW as a modern car maker and the VW Polo gave them a foothold in the supermini market. From the original VW Golf other models emerged, especially the  icon of the 1980's the Golf Cabriolet convertible and of course the Golf GTI.

The really dramatic growth towards Volkswagen briefly becoming the worlds largest car manufacturer (overtaking Toyota) started with expansion in Spain with the purchase of SEAT in the early 1980s which VW finally bought outright in 1990.

Volkswagen currently owns VW, Audi, Porsche, SEAT, Skoda, Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti. Quite a range of marques though at Green Garage we do not get involved with the most "exotic" of these brands (at least not yet).

The Iconic VW Beetle

Originally designed by Ferdinand Porsche in 1937, the VW Beetle was built as the "peoples car" but it's mass manufacture was halted by World War II so mass production did not really begin until 1946.

The car was mass produced right through the early 1970's but began to die out by 1973.

The Beetle was re-born in 1991 when the design was use to great excitement in a concept car "Concept One" which resulted in the rebirth of the Beetle in a modern (Polo based) guise.

If you are looking for some help with your VW Beetle (classic or modern) then Green Garage can certainly help you.  We are also partial to looking after VW Campervans too.
